RADFORD, Va. – The UNC Asheville women's volleyball team took No. 1 Radford to five sets and extra points before conceding a close match in Virginia Friday night.
The Highlanders won the first set 25-17, before Asheville took sets two and three (25-22, 25-21). Radford rallied with a 25-16 victory in set four to tie up the match at two sets a piece.
In the fifth set, both teams battled back and forth with Radford beating the Bulldogs to the break (8-4). Asheville came back to tie the match at 13-13 behind two kills from Madison Vaughn.
The two teams traded points to remain tied at 16 apiece before Radford earned the final two points to put the match away and move to a conference record of 11-1.
NOTABLES
-The Bulldogs out-blocked the Highlanders 8-7 with Julia Loveday and Cara Guthrie leading the way with four block assists each.
-Madison Vaughn recorded a team-high 18 kills with only three errors for an attacking percentage of .484.
- The Highlanders out-dug the Bulldogs 85-79. Madisen Zyburt recorded a team-high 21 digs in five sets.
