01.04.2016 | Women's Basketball
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville junior guard Chatori Major has been named College Sports Madness' Big South Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the publication announced this morning. The honor goes to a Bulldog women's player for the fourth time this season after Tianna Knuckles and Ja'Da Brayboy have previously earned the recognition.
Major contributed a career night and a team-high scoring performance to lift Asheville to two Big South Conference wins last week. On Tuesday she delivered a career-high 28 points on 56 percent shooting with 4-of-6 shots good from behind the arc. She also chipped in five rebounds and one steal to boost Asheville to an eight-point win over Winthrop. In Asheville's Saturday contest at Campbell, Major tallied a team-high 17 points, four rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot to contribute to the Bulldog victory.
Major and the Bulldogs are 11-2 on the season and are a perfect 4-0 in Big South Conference play. Asheville looks to stay atop the conference standings tonight when they take on Liberty on the road before they travel to Charleston Southern Saturday afternoon.
