Bulldog Women Take First, Men Finish Second on Saturday Morning

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville cross country teams raced well Saturday morning on their home course, with the women's team taking home first place and the men's squad notching a second place finish in the 2015 UNC Asheville Invitational.
THE TURNING POINT
On the women's side, the Bulldogs put their top seven runners all inside the top 11 finishers to earn a 19-point victory over second place Western Carolina. The men's race was the reverse, with Western Carolina placing their top seven runners all inside the top 20, while Asheville had three runners finish in the top 10 and their top seven finishers inside the top 25.
NOTABLES
-Dominic Collichio (25:32.66) finished third overall, seven seconds off the top pace. Andy Thornburg (26:09.36, 6th) and Nathan Kirse (26:13.19, 7th) were also inside the top 10.
-Asheville saw runners finish second through fifth and then 10-12 in the women's race. Sarah Heisner (18:38.30) paced the Bulldog group and finished second while Kelsie Rubino (18:51.74), Erin Dalton (18:54.76) and Casey Greenwalt (18:58.89) were stride-for-stride in third through fifth, respectively.
-The Asheville men have now finished second in both meets this season, while the women's squad now holds a first and second place finish through two races.
UP NEXT
-The Bulldogs now prepare for the USC Upstate Invitational/Big South Preview race in Spartanburg, S.C. on October 3. The site will also host the Big South Championship race later in October.
