Pre-Nationals
Location: Louisville, KY
LOUISVILLE, KY – The UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country teams competed on this year's NCAA National Championship course Saturday, with the Bulldogs competing in two different races on both the men's and women's sides.
THE TURNING POINT
The Bulldogs competed against some of the top teams from across the country in both races on the men's and women's sides. Asheville's rosters split to compete in the Unseeded and Open races, four of the six total races on Saturday.
NOTABLES
-In the women's unseeded race, Sarah Heisner paced Asheville with a 107th place finish with a time of 22:24.9
-In the women's open race, Megan Brewer led the Bulldogs with an 86th place finish with a time of 23:26.6.
-The Asheville women in the unseeded race all finished with new personal best times, with the four (Heisner, Kelsie Rubino, Erin Dalton and Kasey Briggs) all finishing within 24 seconds of each other.
-In the men's unseeded race, Dominic Collichio paced Asheville with a 142nd place finish with a time of 25:52.4.
-In the men's open race, Ryan Catrine led the Bulldogs with a 113th place finish with a time of 26:58.7.
QUOTABLES
“I am disappointed with how our team ran in the men's races. We just never gave ourselves a chance to be successful and we just couldn't make it up. Hopefully this will be a race to light them up and get them hungry for the conference championships in two weeks. On the women's side I felt we ran well today. What held us back today was our number 5-7 runners. Even with that we were able to put 8 of 12 ladies on the all-time list. If we can tighten up our pack I believe we can contend for a championship in two weeks.” – Head Coach Jesse Norman
UP NEXT
-Following this weekend's races, the Bulldogs now have two weeks to prepare for the Big South Championship races on October 31 in Spartanburg.
