CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville cross country teams tuned up for next weekend's regional races with Friday night's short two-mile race at Western Carolina. The Bulldogs finished second in both the men's and women's races.
NOTABLES
-The short course gave Asheville's underclassmen an opportunity to compete, with seven of the Bulldogs' 12 combined runners either freshmen or sophomores.
-The men's team finished with seven runners in the top 15, including three – Blanton Gillespie (4th, 15:49.3), Nathan Kirse (5th, 15:54.9) and Patrick Osborne (6th, 15:56.8) – running stride for stride and finishing in the top 10.
-The women's team results saw all five Asheville runners finish within 25 seconds of each other, including three – Marrissa Banks (6th, 11:46.7), Maddie Lowe (9th, 11:56.2) and Alyssa Lashway (10th, 12:01.2) – in the top 10.

-Following this tonight's races, the Bulldogs now prepare for the NCAA Regional meet, held in Charlottesville, Virginia next Friday, November 13.
