Bulldogs Run Streak to Six with Five-Set Victory Friday Night

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team went the distance Friday night, prevailing in five sets to pull out a 3-2 victory over tournament-host The Citadel in the Bulldogs' first of three matches in Charleston.
THE TURNING POINT
After seeing The Citadel jump in front with victories in sets two and three, the Bulldogs answered back with a tough fourth set win to force the fifth set before grabbing the victory.
NOTABLES
-Two Bulldogs finished with double-digit kills in the win – Chrissy Lakatos (14) and Shelby Erickson (10).
-Lakatos added 13 digs while fellow senior Bryn Pfeiffer notched 15 digs in the victory.
-A pair of Bulldogs – Amanda Powers (26) and Katie Davis (17) – finished with double-digit assists in the victory.
-The match was Asheville's first of the season to go the full five sets. Prior to tonight, four of Asheville's wins had come in four sets.
-Asheville is now 5-0 all-time against The Citadel. The Bulldogs have now bested The Citadel on back-to-back Friday nights.
-The Bulldogs have now won six consecutive matches – their longest winning streak since a string of seven consecutive victories late in the 2010 season. Asheville also went on a six-game winning streak earlier in the 2010 campaign.

-Following tonight's victory, Asheville now prepares for a pair of matches on Saturday – against Wright State at 9:00 a.m. and against North Florida at 2:00 p.m. Asheville returns home to the Justice Center and opens Big South Conference play next Friday night with a 7:00 p.m. match against Gardner-Webb.
