CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina took control from the start, ousting visiting UNC Asheville 3-0 on Tuesday night on the road as Catamount Jo-Leigh Vervelde finished with a triple-double of 15 kills, 21 assists and 11 digs.

 

THE TURNING POINT

Western connected for a 73 percent attack percentage in the second set, coupling that with an 8-0 run early in the set to win the set 25-15 and go up 2-0.

 

NOTABLES

-Christine Lakatos led Asheville with eight of the team's 29 total digs in the match.

 

-Three Bulldogs – Cat Fischer (12), Bryn Pfeiffer (12) and Lakatos (10) – finished with double-digit digs in the loss.

 

-This marks the first time the Bulldogs have opened a season with a 1-3 mark through the first four matches since the 200 season.

 

-Asheville is 12-11 all-time against Western Carolina after losing the team's meetings the last two seasons.
