ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team opened up its home schedule Friday afternoon with a straight set victory over visiting Montreat inside the Justice Center, giving Asheville head coach Frederico Santos his 100th career victory.
THE TURNING POINT
Asheville went on a 16-2 run early in the opening set to set the tone and didn't look back, taking the match by scores of 25-10, 25-13 and 25-17.
NOTABLES
-A pair of Bulldogs – Catherine Fischer and Cameron Pryor (10 each) – finished with double-digit kills in the victory.
-Coach Santos now holds a record of 100-104 in seven seasons as a head coach, and a 54-73 record in his fourth season with Asheville.
-Amanda Powers handed out 27 assists in the three sets, while Bryn Pfeiffer had 13 digs – both match-highs.
-The Bulldogs have never lost a set to Montreat, now having won all five matchups in straight sets (1999, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2015).
-With today's win, Asheville is now 2-3 through the first five matches for the second time in the last five seasons (2011, 2015).
