CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team fell victim to a solid hitting performance from UNC Charlotte on Saturday night, falling 3-0 in the final match of the Bulldogs' opening weekend. Senior Christine Lakatos was one of seven players named to the All-Tournament team for her play over the weekend.
THE TURNING POINT
Charlotte used a 6-0 scoring run in the opening set and a 6-2 run in the second set on the way to grabbing their two set lead. A timely timeout by Charlotte late in the third set ended a Bulldog 4-1 run and allowed the 49ers to close the set and the match.
NOTABLES
-Lakatos finished with 29 kills over the three matches on her way to the All-Tournament selection, but was limited to just four kills against Charlotte with three errors.
-As a team, the Bulldogs finished with a .075 hitting percentage in the loss while Charlotte notched a .300 hitting percentage.
-Asheville's best set stat-wise came in the third set, when they collected 17 of their 29 total kills and had a set hitting percentage of .256.
-The Bulldogs are now 4-9 against Charlotte since 1994.
-Asheville has now started four of the last eight seasons 1-2 after their first three contests.

UP NEXT
-Asheville travels to regional rival Western Carolina on Tuesday night before playing their first home match of the year inside the Justice Center on Friday afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. start against Montreat College. The Bulldogs then host the UNC Asheville Invitational September 10-12, playing four matches as part of the full tournament schedule.
