ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will boast three former North Carolina East-West All-Star participants when they open the school year next month, as incoming freshman Kelli Fisher was named to the 2015 West All-Star roster.
Fisher, who graduated from East Rowan High School, is one of 10 players selected to represent the West All-Stars and one of 20 total players from across the state selected to play in the women's basketball game on Monday night in Greensboro as part of the North Carolina East-West All-Star game week that will feature exhibitions in multiple sports.
Rising Asheville senior guard Paige Love represented Wilkes Central High School and the West All-Stars in the 2012 contest, earning MVP honors for her performance in the game. Bulldog head coach Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick also played in the All-Star game, representing Tuscola High School and the West All-Stars in the 1996.
“We are pleased that Kelli Fisher was selected to participate in the North Carolina East-West All-Star game on Monday. It a tremendous honor to be selected as one of the best players in the state and she certainly deserves this recognition,” Kirkpatrick stated.
“Paige Love was the MVP of the 2012 game when she represented the West. I also had the opportunity to play in this game many years ago and it was both a fun and challenging experience. I know Kelli will do a great job and represent us well over the weekend.”
The Bulldog trio and the rest of the women's team will open practice for their 2015-16 campaign on later this fall, building towards the season opener on November 13 at East Tennessee State.
