Three Seniors Named to NCCSIA All-State Baseball Team

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – A trio of UNC Asheville baseball seniors were honored for their play this spring, as Hunter Bryant, Tommy Houmard and Nick Schavone were each named Second Team All-State performers by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA).

 

 

The NCCSIA selects a University All-State team, comprised of players from all Division I schools in the state of North Carolina, and also a College All-State team, made up of players from Division II, Division III and NAIA schools across the state.

 

 

Twenty-six players representing nine different North Carolina universities were named to the 2015 NCCSIA University Division All-State First and Second Teams. Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.

 

 

A Greenville, N.C. native, Tommy Houmard started and played in all 55 games this spring, finishing with a .361 batting average, 30 RBI and 44 runs scored. Houmard had a pair of 21 game on-base streaks during the season and defensively was part of one of the top double play-infields in the country, ranking in the national top-20 in total double plays and double plays per game average. He finished his final season as a national semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award, given annually to the nation's top shortstop, and graduated in May with his degree in Biology.

 

 

An Asheville, N.C. native, Hunter Bryant also started and played in all 55 games, finishing with a.340 batting average, 46 RBI and 45 runs scored. His 12 home runs this season were the most by a single Bulldog player since the 2008 season. The top power hitter for Asheville this spring, he led the team in homers and RBI and finished his career with a 34 game on-base streak. He graduated in May with his degree in Management.

 

 

An Apex, N.C. native, Nick Schavone appeared in 27 games as a Bulldog this season, the most of any pitcher. He tallied a 2-2 record a 3.41 ERA in 31 2/3 innings with 30 strikeouts and eight saves. One of the most used pitchers in the Big South Conference this season, he ranked in the top five in several conference categories – total appearances, appearances in relief and total saves. He graduated in May with his degree in Psychology.

Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.

 

 

NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
