Bulldog Track & Field Set for Big South Championships

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's and women's track & field teams head to High Point to compete in the 2015 Big South Conference Track & Field Championships beginning on Thursday and continuing on Friday and Saturday.

Overall, the Bulldogs will have 20 athletes competing in 14 individual events, as well as having relay teams in both the men's and women's 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter races.
The women's side will feature 12 different Bulldogs in nine events, with Argia Gibson competing in three events – the 100 meter dash, long jump and the triple jump.
Kassandra Pierre will be in the 400 meter hurdle race, while Anna Gelbach and Zoe Hickey both will compete in the 400 meter dash. Alyssa Lashway and Kelsie Rubino will each compete in the 800 meter run.
Sarah Heisner, Casey Greenwalt, Maddie Lowe and Rubino will all run in the 1,500 meter run, while Heisner and Greenwalt will also run in the 5,000 meter run, joined by Kasey Briggs and Erin Dalton.
Briggs and Dalton, along with Adrian Etheridge, will all compete in the 10,000 meter run as well.
The men's side features eight Bulldogs in five events, led by Andy Thornburg competing in both the 1,500 meter run and the 5,000 meter run.
Joe McNamara will run in the 100 meter dash, while three Asheville runners – Chase Stevens, Jason Perry and Patrick Osborne – will all compete in the 800 meter run.
Chilton Birdwhistell will join Thornburg in the 1,500 meter run, while Sam Barbeau and John Bellard will both take part in the javelin throw competition.
The Big South Championships get started on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at Vert Stadium on the High Point University campus.
