ATLANTA, Ga. – UNC Asheville junior Kassandra Pierre set a school and national record on Saturday in the 400 meter hurdles as part of the Bulldogs afternoon at the Georgia Tech Invitational.

Pierre, a dual citizen of the United States and island of St. Lucia where her family is originally from, set both the UNC Asheville school record and the St. Lucia national record when she clocked a 1:01.56 time in the women's 400 meter hurdles.

Her afternoon was part of a day that saw a total of five new personal bests set by Asheville runners on both the men's and women's side.

The men's 800 meter race featured seven Bulldogs, including a pair of new personal best performances by Chase Stevens (1:56.68) and Jason Perry (1:59.38) as the group of seven all finished within 15 seconds of each other.

The Bulldog men's 4x400 meter relay team of Sergeneno Rankin, David Hager, Stevens and Perry turned in a time of 3:27.01, while two Bulldogs, Joe McNamera (23.20) and Rankin (23.36) were stride for stride in the men's 200 meter dash.

On the women's side, Kelsie Rubino eclipsed her personal best time with a mark of 2:16.25, while Casey Greenwalt was strides behind her with her time of 2:18.64. Argia Gibson turned in a new outdoor personal best distance in the women's triple jump, finishing at 11.27 meters.

Bulldogs Zoe Hickey and Anna Gelbach were seconds off each other's times in two different races. In the 400 meter dash, Hickey clocked in at 59.28 seconds with Gelbach (59.77) right behind her before the duo flipped positions in the 200 meter dash when Gelbach (26.39) beat Hickey (26.45) by .06 seconds.

Asheville will take next weekend off from competition before traveling to compete May 2 at Appalachian State.
