Bulldogs Travel to Presbyterian for Big South Series

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team returns to Big South Conference play this afternoon when they open their three-game series at Presbyterian College. The two teams will play today at 2 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Bulldogs (16-18, 3-6 BSC) travel to Clinton after splitting their two midweek games this week, winning at ETSU on Tuesday night before dropping a home game against Wofford on Wednesday.
Presbyterian (18-15, 1-8 BSC) enters the series coming off their third consecutive midweek win with a road victory over Savannah State on Wednesday night.
The series will be the first conference games in two weeks for Asheville, who took two of three games at Gardner-Webb at the end of March. The Blue Hose enter the series after getting swept at home against Campbell last weekend.
Asheville will send left-hander Lucas Clarke to the mound Friday, who enters with a 3-4 record with a 3.80 ERA in nine total apperances. Joe Zayatz (1-4, 4.09 ERA) will pitch Saturday, coming into the weekend with a team-best 35 strikeouts in 50 2/3 innings pitched. The Bulldog coaching staff is undecided on Sunday's starter at this point.
The Bulldogs enter the weekend hitting .242 as a team with a 5.77 team ERA. Zayatz leads the team with a .350 batting average and Hunter Bryant ranks second with .313 and a team-high 27 RBI.
Cam McRae leads Presbyterian with a .352 batting average, followed by Jay Lizanich's .346 average. Three Blue Hose share the team lead in RBI, with 24.

Hunter Bryant is fifth in the Big South in home runs with seven.
Nick Schavone is tied for first in the Big South in saves with seven.
Lucas Clarke leads the Big South in starts with nine.
Asheville is 10-3 when scoring six or more runs this season.
The Bulldogs are jumping out in front early, outscoring opponents 55-32 in the opening two innings.
Asheville is 13-1 when leading after six innings this year.
