Bulldog Baseball Hosts LaSalle this Weekend

03.05.2015 | Baseball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team begins a three-game series against LaSalle of the Atlantic 10 Conference on Friday at Greenwood Field. Friday's game starts at 3 p.m., followed by a game on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday's matinee starts at 1 p.m.

The Bulldogs (5-6) have bounced back nicely after losing their first three games of the year. Asheville has won five of its last eight games and done a nice job winning close games during this stretch. Scott Friedholm's club has won four of those games by two runs or less.  Asheville's pitching has limited opponents to just 10 earned runs in those five victories.

The Blue & White won its first mid-week of the year on Wednesday when the Bulldogs downed ETSU at Greenwood Field, 8-6. Freshman pitcher Jordan Fullbright pitched five strong innings for Asheville to earn his first victory. Nick Schavone earned his second save of the year.

The Bulldogs will get a good test from a talented LaSalle squad this weekend. LaSalle is 4-6 on the year and owns two wins over Big South foe Charleston Southern.

Asheville plans to start right-hander Corey Randall (1-1, 4.82 ERA) on Friday. The Bulldogs will start left-hander Lucas Clarke (1-1, 1.96 ERA) on Saturday. Joe Zayatz (0-3, 5.60 ERA) is scheduled to start on Sunday. The right-hander owns Asheville's only complete game of the year.

Lucas Owens leads Ashville at the plate this year with a .444 average with one home run and seven RBI's. Joe Tietjen has a .324 average with five doubles, one triple and five RBI's.
