COOKEVILLE, TN – The UNC Asheville baseball team used a five-run first inning to cruise to a 14-5 midweek road victory at Tennessee Tech on Tuesday night.
With the win, the Bulldogs (15-14) improve to 7-0 in midweek games this season and are now 9-3 away from the friendly confines of Greenwood Field.
In Tuesday's win, Hunter Bryant led Asheville with three hits and four RBI, as four other Bulldogs tallied two hits on the afternoon. On the mound, Spencer Orr improved to 3-0 on the year with his five-inning outing, allowing just four hits and one Tennessee Tech (10-17) run.
Five Bulldog relievers held the hosts to four hits over the final four innings on the way to the win.
Asheville jumped out in front from the start, posting the five-run first inning aided by three Tennessee Tech errors as the Bulldogs plated runs via two errors, a wild pitch, a balk and a Bryant RBI sacrifice fly.
The visitors added two more runs an inning later on Bryant's two-out, two-run double to center field to push the advantage to 7-0. Bryant earned his fourth RBI of the game with his bases loaded walk in the sixth frame, followed moments later by Tommy Houmard bases loaded walk and Erik Connolly's RBI single later in the inning.
A four-run eighth inning capped off the night's scoring for the Bulldogs, highlighted by Joe Tietjen's two-run double to left field and Michael Kelly's first collegiate RBI with his bases loaded walk.
The Bulldogs continue their road trip with a three-game series at UNC Wilmington on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with Thursday's first game set for a 6:00 p.m. first pitch.
