03.31.2015 | Men's Tennis
Men's tennis player Daniel Kripak is this week's Blue Cross Blue Shield North Carolina Student-Athlete of the Week.
Each week the school selects a BCBSNC Athlete of the Week upon their performance from the previous week's action.
Daniel had a strong week, going 7-1 overall between singles and doubles play. He went 3-1 in singles at the top flight last week, improving his record to 9-6 overall for the season. He began the week with a straight-set victory over North Greenville's Sjors van Eck, before turning his attention to a trio of conference opponents. His lone loss of the week was against Patrick O'Keefe of Radford, but turned around with a pair of three-set victories to close out the week. Kripak defeated Dillon Segur of Liberty, helping the Bulldogs comeback from a 2-1 deficit in the match. He wrapped up the week by coming from behind to top Coastal's Phillipe Tsangarides. After falling in the opening set, Kripak grabbed a 7-6 victory in the second and a 6-4 victory in the third to complete the comeback.
In doubles, Kripak and teammate Josh Swindler were unbeaten for the week at the third flight. The duo eased past North Greenville 8-1, before topping Radford 8-3, Liberty 8-4, and Coastal 8-6. Their efforts helped the Blue & White win the doubles point in each match and improve their overall mark to 6-3 on the year.
Daniel and the Bulldogs will finish the regular-season on the road for their final three matches of the year starting tomorrow at Presbyterian College. UNC Asheville will host this year's Big South Conference championship at the Asheville Racquet Club from April 18-21.
