Gibson Sets Bulldog School Record in Georgia

ATLANTA, GA – The UNC Asheville track teams saw athletes compete in 16 different events on Saturday, with the Bulldogs having multiple competitors in half of those events, as the teams competed in a full day of action at the George C. Griffin Track at Georgia Tech.
The day featured top-10 finishes in several events, but the highlight of the day came in the women's long jump, where sophomore Argia Gibson set a new UNC Asheville school record with her distance of 5.58 meters, giving her an 11th place finish.
In the women's 800-meter run, two Bulldogs finished inside the top 10, with Alyssa Lashway grabbing seventh place with her time of 2:17.27, the fourth-fastest time in school history in the event. Kelsie Rubino was moments behind in eighth place with her new personal-best outdoor time of 2:17.71.
The men's 800-meter run saw Patrick Osborne and Chase Stevens nearly stride for stride, with Osborne finishing eighth with his time of 1:57.76 and Stevens' time of 1:58.09 giving him 10th place.
John Bellard's distance of 52.85 meters gave him a seventh place finish in the men's javelin throw, with teammate Sam Barbeau's 45.71 meter distance finishing 12th overall.
Both the men's and women's 4x400 meter relay teams turned in good times, with the men's squad of Sergeneno Rankin, Jason Perry, Osborne and Stevens tallying a time of 3:28.28 for fourth place. The women's team of Anna Gelbach, Kassandra Pierre, Zoe Hickey and Lashway finished in 12th with their time of 4:11.99.
The Bulldogs are back on the track next weekend when they travel to Knoxville, Tennessee to take part in the Tennessee Relays.
