ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team is home this afternoon when the Bulldogs take on Appalachian State at Greenwood Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Bulldogs (9-10) are coming off a 9-4 Big South Conference win over Charleston Southern on Monday at home. Asheville lost the first two games of the series but roared back to win the finale over the Bucs Monday afternoon.

Tommy Houmard and Lucas Owens were a combined 4-of-6 at the plate and accounted for six runs and three RBIs.  Hunter Bryant added two hits for the Blue & White.

Asheville faces an Appalachian State team that is 5-14 on the season and has lost its last nine games in a row. The Apps have faced a tough schedule in the first part of the year and own a 4-0 win over Big South foe High Point last month.

Appalachian State has won 11-straight games over UNC Asheville, dating back to 2005. The Mountaineers' last loss to the Bulldogs was a 14-1 setback in Boone on May 19, 2004. App State holds a 37-19 advantage in the all-time series between the programs, which dates back to 1985.

After Tuesday's game, the Bulldogs stay at home as they host Coastal Carolina this weekend (March (20-22).

Joe Zayatz leads Asheville in hitting with a .382 average, followed by Owens with a .379 mark.

The Bulldogs are one of the most improved teams in the country so far in 2015. Asheville won just 13 games in 2014 but with its nine wins are just four victories away from matching last year's win total before April 1.
