Bulldogs Close Out Buccaneer Invite With Strong Saturday Showing

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The UNC Asheville indoor track and field teams finished up the second day of action at the Buccaneer Invitational with another strong day of competition.
The highlight of the day came in the women's 3000 meter run, as Amy Castle finished second with her time of 10:47.68, while fellow Bulldog Phoebe Schneider finished 16th with her time of 11:11.72 to place two Asheville runners in the top 20. In the women's 3000 meter run seeded race, Sarah Heisner finished 17th overall with her time of 10:43.44.
Both the men's and women's one mile runs saw Bulldogs finish seventh, as Nathan Kirse turned in a time of 4:33.92 in the men's race and Scarlett Beamon finished in 5:30.07 in the women's race. A pair of Asheville men finished in the top 20 in the race, as Ryan Catrine joined Kirse with his time of 4:38.50 good for 16th and on the women's side, Katie Gamble (5:44.49) finished 28th and Marissa Banks (5:47.71) was close behind her pace.
Dominic Collichio finished 10th overall with his rime of 4:20.75 in the men's one mile seeded race as well.
The women's 800 meter run saw Maddie Lowe finish less than four seconds off the pace in fourth place with her time of 2:23.24, while fellow Bulldogs Casey Greenwalt (2:23.03) and Alyssa Lashway (2:23.92) were nearly stride-for-stride as the two finished 14th and 18th, respectively, in the women's 800 meter seeded race.
In the women's 4x400 meter relay, both the Asheville 'A' and 'B' teams finished inside the top 20, as the 'A' group of Kassandra Pierre, Zoe Hickey, Anna Gelbach and Greenwalt finished 10th with a time of 4:04.49. The Asheville 'B' team of Maddie Lowe, Tara Thompson, Lashway and Beamon finished 20th with their time of 4.19.61.
The Bulldogs will be back in competition next weekend when they travel to Huntington, WV to compete in the Marshall Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
