Men's Basketball Falls at Coastal Carolina, 68-56

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina went on a 15-2 run to start the second half and break open a close game as the Chanticlers defeated visiting UNC Asheville 68-56 Tuesday night at the HTC Center.
Senior guard Corey Littlejohn led the Blue & White with a season-high 14 points. David Robertson added 10 points, all in the second half.
The Bulldogs (11-11, 7-4 BSC) had a miserable night shooting. Asheville shot 34 percent (20-of-59) from the field, 35 percent (7-of-20) from the three-point line and 47 percent (9-of-19) from the free throw line.
CCU (16-7, 7-4 BSC) was led by Josh Cameron with 18 points. Elijah Wilson finished with 15 points.
Asheville managed to stay close to the Chanticleers in the first half despite three players going to the bench with two fouls, including Rowsey.
The Bulldogs shot just .333 (10-of-20) from the field and 30 percent (3-of-10) from the free throw line. Asheville had an early 11-4 lead before the Chants rallied to take a 25-21 lead. The Dogs responded with six straight points, four by freshman Ahmad Thomas to take a 27-25 lead. Warren Gillis jumper in the lane tied the game at intermission, 27-27.
Things got away from the Bulldogs quickly in the second half. Asheville went 1-of-10 from the field to start the second half. CCU got points from five different players to race to a 42-29 lead.
Asheville closed to nine at the 10-minute mark on a Sam Hughes lay-up but could get no closer. Cameron scored five points in a 7-0 run to push the Chanticleer lead to 62-44.
CCU shot 56 percent (14-of-25) from the field in the second half. Andrew Rowsey was held to six points on the right as he battled foul trouble the entire evening.
UNC Asheville returns home on Friday night when the Bulldogs host Big South foe Longwood at Kimmel Arena starting at 7 p.m.
