ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team, following adjustments to the schedule, will travel to Columbia, S.C. for a full weekend of baseball against Canisius College, New Jersey Institute of Technology and Morehead State.

Asheville will take on Canisius at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at the Lexington Sports Complex.  The Bulldogs will play a double-header on Saturday, beginning with NJIT at 10:00 a.m. at Riley Park and then will face Morehead State at 1:00 p.m. at Riley Park in Sumter, S.C.  The Blue & White will wrap up the weekend against NJIT back at the Lexington Sports Complex in a 1:30 p.m. contest.

Live stats will be available for all games.

“We are excited to get back out on the field and compete again,” said head coach Scott Friedholm.  “We are looking forward to the opportunity to face three good teams who will be tough competition.  We are not worried as much about our opponents but more about how we compete.  We are very excited to be playing this weekend.”

Coach Friedholm's rotation for this week will set up with right-hander Corey Randall (1-0) taking the hill on Friday against Canisius. Lefty Lucas Clarke (0-1) will get the call for game one on Saturday and Spencer Orr will make his first start of the season in game two.  Joe Zayatz (0-2) will round out the weekend, taking the mound against NJIT on Sunday.

The Bulldogs take the field for the first time since going 2-1 last weekend in Spartanburg with wins over Miami (OH) and East Tennessee State.  The offense is led by Lucas Owens .(438 BA)  and Tommy Houmard (.381).  In addition to his eight hits, Houmard has also drawn six walks through the early portion of the season.  Owens leads the team with six RBI and 11 total bases in four games for the junior catcher.

Asheville was originally slated to play a four game home series with NJIT before weather issues for the teams to seek other accommodations.  After this weekend, the Bulldogs will return home to for the first of a five game home stand, beginning with East Tennessee State at 4:00 p.m. on March 4.
