ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team was scheduled to open Big South Conference play on Thursday at Presbyterian College but due to the winter weather invading the Asheville area that match has been moved to Saturday at 2 p.m.
Asheville is off to its best start in school history with a 7-1 start. The Bulldogs have posted impressive non-conference victories over Norfolk State, East Carolina, Tennessee Tech and UNC Greensboro. Asheville's win over ECU was a first for the Blue & White.
The Blue & White will have its hands full with a talented Blue Hose squad on Saturday. PC won last year's Big South regular-season title and is 10-2 on the season.
“We're off to a great start, and I'm very proud of what we've accomplished so far this season,” stated Bulldog coach Tom Hand. “Our guys have fought hard in all our matches and done a nice job winning the close ones.
“But as I keep telling them, it's a long season,” added the second-year coach. “We have a lot of work to do and our biggest matches are coming up in conference play.
“Presbyterian College may be the best team we've played yet this year,” Hand also said. “They have most of their team back that won the regular-season title last season. We'll have to be at our absolute best to have a chance at winning.”
