Gardner-Webb Slips Past UNC Asheville 66-58

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb placed three players in double figures as the Runnin' Bulldogs held off UNC Asheville 66-58 in Big South Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Kimmel Arena.
Asheville (7-20, 6-12 BSC) was led by 14 points from Chatori Major. Shonese Jones added 13 points. Tianna Knuckles poured in 11 points.
Gardner-Webb received a double-double from Candace Brown with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Olivia Parker contributed 13 points and eight rebounds. Kierra Currie chipped in 10 points, all in the second half.
The Runnin' Bulldogs led from start to finish and led by as many as 15 in the second half before Asheville rallied.
The home team cut the lead to GWU lead to 60-55 with one minute left on a Major lay-up. The Bulldogs had the ball and a chance to get closer but Knuckles' trey fell just short.
Gardner-Webb went 6-of-6 from the free throw line in the final minute to hold on for the win.
The Runnin' Bulldogs forced 20 Asheville turnovers and outscored the Bulldogs 19-5 on points off turnovers.
UNC Asheville travels to Radford Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
