Women's Basketball Heads to High Point for Tuesday Matchup

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will return to the court on Tuesday night following a bye week when the Bulldogs travel to High Point for a 7 p.m. contest at the Millis Center.

 

Tuesday's game can be seen for free on the Big South Network.

 

Asheville (7-18, 6-10 BSC) is coming off a 56-51 home loss to Campbell on Tuesday, February 10. The Bulldogs fell behind early to the Camels and trailed by as much as 14 before battling back to within a basket at 53-51.  A tough night at the foul line (9-for-20) doomed by Blue & White.

 

High Point (15-1, 11-6 BSC) enter Tuesday's game after losing their last two games to Winthrop and Campbell.

 

“Every time we play High Point it's an absolute battle. I expect nothing less on Tuesday night,” stated head coach Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick. “We are focusing on playing great possession basketball and executing on the offensive end. On the defensive side of the ball, High Point presents multiple offensive threats headlined by one of the best players in the league, Stacia Robertson.”

 

In the first meeting on January 13, the Bulldogs hung tight through the first half, before High Point pulled away from the in the second half thanks to a pair of 10-2 runs.  The Blue & White had a rough shooting night, connecting on just 32.8 percent (19-of-58) of their field goal attempts.

 

HPU has a 33-11 advantage in the all-time series with the Bulldogs.  The Panthers have won the last 12 matchups dating back to the 2008-09.  Asheville's last win at the Millis Center came on February 20, 2008 when the Blue & White earned a 79-63 victory.

 

Shonese Jones leads the Bulldogs in scoring with an 11.2 average. KJ Weaver leads Asheville in rebounding with a 6.4 mark and tops the club in blocked shots with 29. Senior guard Brittany Gwyn leads the Blue & White in assists (63) and steals (28).

 

Following Tuesday night's game, Asheville will return to Kimmel Arena for the home finale and senior day on Saturday, February 21st against Gardner-Webb.
