Bulldog Tennis Moves Season Opener to Sunday

Men's Tennis Improves to 7-1 with 4-3 Win over Tenn. Tech

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Senior John Schubel won his match in straight sets and that proved to be the difference as the UNC Asheville men's tennis team continued its winning ways with a hard-fought 4-3 non-conference victory over Tennessee Tech Sunday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.

 

The Bulldogs improved their record to 7-1 and continued the best start in school history with the 4-3 win.

 

Asheville took a 1-0 by winning both matches completed for the doubles point. The Bulldogs top flight team of Brett Landau and Alex Croker won its match, 6-4 over Alberto Esteben and Alex Arovin. Asheville's #3 flight of Josh Swindler and Daniel Kripak easily won over Othan Lima and ArtemTarasov, 6-0.

 

The Golden Eagles (1-3) won the top three flights of singles before the Bulldogs rallied in flights 4-6.  Croker began the comeback at #4 flight as he raced past Cintas, 6-4, 6-4. Landau won in straight sets at #5 flight over Carlos Tejas, 6-2, 6-4.

 

Schubel sealed the victory at #6 flight when he downed Lima, 6-4, 6-4.

 

UNC Asheville is back in action on Feb. 24 when the Bulldogs host North Greenville at Noon. Two days later (Feb. 26), Asheville opens Big South Conference play at defending Big South Conference regular-season champion Presbyterian College.
