Men's Tennis Falls to ASU, 4-3

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Appalachian State picked up four singles victories to edge UNC Asheville 4-3 in men's tennis action at the Asheville Racquet Club Sunday afternoon.
The close loss was the Bulldogs (4-1) first of the year after starting the season with four wins. ASU improved to 3-2 on the year.
Asheville earned the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The Blue & White captured the point by getting wins at #1 and #2 flights. Asheville's #1 team of Brett Landau and Alex Croker won its match 6-2. The point came down to #2 team of Reid Dillon and Thomas Panoulas as they slipped past Jack Maddocks and Scott Webster, 7-5.
The Bulldogs earned singles wins from Panoulas and Josh Swindler at #2 and #3 flights. Panoulas roared past Zach Bost, 6-4, 6-4. Swindler went to three sets before downing Maddocks, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
But the Apps were able to win singles matches at flights 4-6 to earn the close victory.
The Bulldogs are back in action next Saturday (Feb. 7) at Lees-McRae for a match at Noon.
