Senior Paige Love Selected as Nominee for Allstate Good Works Team

12.02.2015 | Women's Basketball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville senior guard Paige Love of the women's basketball team has been nominated to the 2016 Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams®, it was announced today. This distinguished award shines a spotlight on a select group of student-athletes who have shown dedication to service in their communities.

This prestigious community service award recognizes a distinguished group of student-athletes who have demonstrated a commitment to enriching the lives of others and contributing to the greater good in their communities.

Love has been one of the Bulldogs top student-athletes in the area of community service. She volunteers at the Shiloh Community Association garden, the YMCA in downtown Asheville, Asheville City Schools and serves as a mentor and friend to Special Olympics athletes.

Paige Love is most deserving of this nomination because of her heart for people and motives to serve. She is not a 'one and done' type of student-athlete when it comes to service and seeks opportunities to cultivate relationships so she can serve others on a continued basis,” head coach Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick stated. “She epitomizes everything we celebrate in this program by putting her team, family, and others before herself.”

College sports information directors and basketball coaches across the country nominated players who exhibit exceptional leadership skills and an unwavering commitment to volunteerism. From the 154 NABC nominees and the 103 WBCA nominees, distinguished voting panels will select two 10-member teams comprised of five student-athletes from the NCAA® Division I level and five student-athletes from NCAA Divisions II, III and the NAIA. The final roster of 20 award recipients will be unveiled in February.

In its fourth year, the Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams® recognize players at all levels of college basketball who have made outstanding contributions in the areas of volunteerism and civic involvement. From establishing nonprofits that provide youth with the necessary tools to become leaders of tomorrow, to raising awareness around pertinent issues that could save lives, these student-athletes exhibit leadership skills both on and off the court.

Members of the Allstate NABC Good Works Team® will be invited by Allstate, an official corporate partner of the NCAA, to the 2016 NABC Convention and 2016 NCAA Men's Final Four® in Houston, where they will participate in a community service project benefitting the city. Members of the Allstate WBCA Good Works Team® will be recognized during the 2016 WBCA Convention and at the 2016 NCAA Women's Final Four® in Indianapolis, and will also participate in a local volunteer project. Allstate is an official corporate partner of the NABC, WBCA and NCAA.
