ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville Women's Basketball team brings the action home on Friday at 11:30 a.m. when they look to continue their eight-game winning streak against regional rival Furman inside Kimmel Arena.
Friday's mid-morning matchup is also Education Day, where the Bulldogs will share their sport with 20 local elementary schools and nearly 1,500 children.
NOTABLES
Offensive Behavior: The Bulldogs offense averages 77 points per game on 44 percent shooting efficiency. Asheville is led by junior Tianna Knuckles, who averages 14.9 points per game. Furman's offense averages 62 points per game on 40 percent shooting efficiency.
Head-to-Head: Asheville has won the last four meetings with Furman at home, including their last matchup in Kimmel Arena two years ago that was decided by Paige Love's buzzer beater to lift Asheville to a 68-65 season-opening victory. With Furman's 81-71 win in Greenville last year, they lead Asheville in the overall series, 14-13.
Historic Start: A win against Furman would extend Asheville's winning streak to nine and their 9-1 record would match the Bulldogs' best start in school history and tie the 1984-85 campaign, when the Bulldogs still competed at the NAIA level.
QUOTEABLES FROM HEAD COACH BRENDA KIRKPATRICK
On the match-up- "We are looking forward to tomorrow's match-up against Furman. They are a very talented and well coached team whose execution on the offensive side of the ball is very good. We will need to guard personnel well and match their composure on both ends. Kimmel Arena will be a very exciting environment as we are hosting elementary schools from all over Buncombe County."
