ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team began practice for the 2015-16 season on Monday, as the Bulldogs went through workouts inside Kimmel Arena.
Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick enters her fourth season as head coach of the Blue & White. She'll have a roster that features a mixture of youth and experience as the Bulldogs have a pair of seniors, four juniors, three sophomores and five freshmen.
“I love the excitement and anticipation for the first day of practice! We have a great blend of new talent and returners this season. The girls have been working hard on and off the court in preparation for this day and the upcoming training sessions we will have,” Kirkpatrick stated.
“This is a strong group of young women who are focused on a growth mindset and maximizing what we have in our arsenal. Paige Love and Tyler Smith are in their senior seasons and we appreciate the leadership and competitive mentality that they are bringing daily. We will be looking to both of them in the upcoming days to help our team embrace the challenges that lay ahead and have fun while doing so.”
Asheville finished 9-22 overall last season, but saw seven of those victories come in conference play. The Bulldogs defeated Coastal Carolina in the Big South Tournament's opening round and went back-and-forth in the quarterfinals with Liberty before falling 59-51 to the Flames to end last season.
The Bulldogs will open the season on November 13 at East Tennessee State before finishing up their opening road trip at Wofford on November 17. Asheville opens the home portion of their 2015-16 schedule on November 20 when they welcome Montreat College to Kimmel Arena.
