Meet the Bulldogs: Freshman Alexis Toney

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's basketball team tips off its 2015-16 season at East Tennessee State Friday, Nov. 13. As an opportunity to “Meet the Bulldogs,” one student-athlete will be highlighted each day leading up to the start of the season. Today's featured Bulldog women's basketball player is freshman Alexis Toney.
A 6-0 forward, Toney attended Beddingfield HS (Wilson, N.C.) and was a two-time CPIC All-Conference Team selection as well as a two-time Eastern Plains All-Conference team selection.
Toney recently took a short break from a study hall session to sit down with UNCABulldogs.com

What class am I interrupting your studying for? “I'm just working on a paper that's due next week.”
What is your major: “Right now I'm thinking Biology but not sure where I want to go with that yet.”
What is your favorite part about UNC Asheville? “The scenery and how everything is around here.”
What made you choose UNC Asheville? “The scenery, the area, the gym definitely, the coaches, and the team.”
What is your favorite part of your hometown? “We're pretty close. I knew a lot of people in my town. Everybody is supportive of each other.”
What are three things you can't live without? “Food…”
Anything in particular? “Mac 'n cheese definitely, that's my favorite. And then family and sleep.”
When I'm not on the basketball court, I am… “somewhere studying. That's pretty much what I do when I'm not practicing.”
If you could have any superpower, what would you want? “The ability to remember everything easily so I wouldn't have to study as much.”
What's something someone may not know about you? “I did play in the band from fourth grade to eighth grade. I played the trumpet.”
So you have a secret musical ability? “I guess, yeah.”
Is there anyone you try to model your game after? “I know I watch a lot of videos on Elena Della Donne and Maya Moore and try to imitate them.”
Do you have a favorite saying from Coach Mock? “I know me personally, she always tells me to box out and be very physical.”
All-time starting five, who do you want on your team? “Steph Curry, Elena Della Donne, Diana Taurasi, Blake Griffin and Anthony Davis.”
What are three words you'd use to describe yourself? “Quiet, humble, and I'm very open, as far as I don't judge.”
Are there any movies you know all the lines to? “When I was little I knew every single line to Monsters, Inc., but it's been a while since I watched that movie so I don't have any right now.”
Are you a shoe person? “I'm starting to be, I'm working on it.”
Last pair of shoes you bought? “These actually (lifts up foot). The Adidas ZX Flux.”
If you could max out your credit card at one store, where would it be? “Dick's Sporting Goods.”
What are you most looking forward to this season? “Proving people wrong and proving what we can do.”
When's the last time you took a selfie? “Oh I don't even know. I don't really take selfies that much.”
