DECATUR, GA – A pair of early goals pushed Georgia State past the UNC Asheville men's soccer team 3-0 in midweek non-conference action in the Atlanta suburbs on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs finished with just six shots in the loss.

THE TURNING POINT

After Georgia State took a 1-0 lead on a goal off of a header in the 10th minute, the hosts added to their advantage 29 seconds later with a penalty kick goal to stretch out to a two goal lead for most of the night. Georgia State added a final goal in the 82nd minute to wrap up the night's scoring.

NOTABLES

-Zach Compton was the only Bulldog to record multiple shots (3) in the contest. Asheville finished with just one of their six shots on goal, while Georgia State tallied 25 shots, 10 of which were on goal.

-Georgia State finished with an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks in the match, cashing in for their first goal off of a corner attempt.

-Asheville goalkeeper Zak Davis came on for the night's final 72 minutes in relief and made several key saves to keep the Bulldogs in the match.

QUOTABLES

“Obviously a little disappointed in the result, but I was pleased with the way that we played. The field were very wet and conditions were adverse. In terms of learning experience, it was very good for us. We gave away two goals with plays that we can make, should have made and didn't make. It was good for our younger guys who got some extended minutes in game action and that is going to help with our growth process. Georgia State was a very athletic team and took advantage of their chances, but anytime you spot a team a two-goal advantage on the road it is going to be very difficult. We have to find a way to bring a more consistent effort to start games. That has been a one of our downfalls, we haven't started games the way we have finished them. I am disappointed with the result but not with the effort or some of the positives I saw tonight. You want your group to find success right away but you have to be patient with the process, and sometimes the process is painful.” – head coach Mathes Mennell
