BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team came up short on the road at Gardner-Webb Friday afternoon, falling by a 3-1 final.
THE TURNING POINT
After the Bulldogs took set two to tie up the match heading into intermission, Gardern-Webb took control of the match by claiming set three, 25-14. After hitting .308 in the second-set win, Asheville hit just .062 in the third set.
NOTABLES
- Freshman Cara Guthrie and junior Madison Vaughn led the offensive attack for the Bulldogs, each recording 10 kills. Guthrie recorded a .364 hitting percentage along with six aces. Vaughn hit .588 for the match.
- Senior Christine Lakatos tallied nine kills, 11 digs, and led the team with four blocks.
- Senior Bryn Pfeiffer led the team with 16 digs.
- Junior Katie Davis dished out a team-high 25 assists.
- Asheville lost a fourth set for just the third time this season.
UP NEXT
-The Bulldogs will head to the South Carolina coast next weekend for a pair of matches against Charleston Southern (Oct. 23) and Coastal Carolina (Oct. 24). Asheville returns home Halloween weekend, hosting High Point (Oct. 30) and Campbell (Oct. 31).
