CHARLESTON, S.C. – A five-set victory opened the UNC Asheville volleyball team's weekend to the South Carolina coast, with the Bulldogs downing Charleston Southern 3-2 in Big South Conference action on Friday night.

 

THE TURNING POINT

The Bulldogs rallied after dropping the first set of the night to win sets two and three to get back into the match. Asheville closed the night by scoring the match's final three points in the deciding fifth set, ending things on a Cara Guthrie ace.

 

NOTABLES

-Asheville finished with three players in double-digit kills – Cameron Pryor and Madison Vaughn each tallied 11, while Cat Fischer notched 10 kills of her own.

 

-Katie Davis passed out 25 assists and Amanda Powers added 21 assists of her own.

 

-Charleston Southern finished with 20 more kills overall than Asheville (76-56), but the Bulldogs forced the hosts into 31 attacking errors on the night.

 

-Vaughn led the Bulldog defensive attack at the net, tallying nine block assists in the victory.

 

-The victory was Asheville's second five-set win on the season (2-1 in five set matches).;

 

-Since 1994, Asheville is now 31-8 against Charleston Southern. The Bulldogs' 31 victories over the Bucs is the most wins by Asheville over a single program since 1994.
