Men's Tennis Defeats UNC Greensboro; Off to Best Start Since 2003

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team is off to its best start since 1993 following its 4-2 victory over UNC Greensboro on Saturday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club.
The 4-0 start to the season for Tom Hand's squad is the best for the men's program since starting perfect through the first four matches in 2003.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring by grabbing the doubles points. Reigning Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Week, Brett Landau and Alex Croker grabbed a 6-4 victory over Randy Phillips and Connor Thompson at the top flight after Thomas Orestis-Panoulas and Reid Dillon topped Daniel Mack and Warren Bryan, 6-2 on court two.
Greensboro earned the first singles point and knotted the score at 1-1, after Orestis-Panoulas was downed 6-3, 6-2 by Randy Phillips at the top flight.
The Bulldogs answered by winning the next two points through victories on courts four and two. Alex Croker topped Cameron Smith 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4, followed by Daniel Kripak's comeback victory over Daniel Mack (5-7, 6-3, 6-2) at No. 2.
After the UNCG closed to within a point with a victory on court five, Josh Swindler clinched the win for the Bulldogs at No. 3 with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) win over Greensboro's Warren Bryan.
Asheville will get right back out on the court Sunday afternoon when they square off with Appalachian State at 3:00 p.m. at the Asheville Racquet Club.
