ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team looks to stay unbeaten this weekend with two home matches against solid opponents.

Tom Hand's team is 3-0 on the season and will host UNC Greensboro on Saturday and Appalachian State on Sunday. Both matches will be at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown and start at 3 p.m. There is no admission charge.

The Bulldogs are coming off a victorious weekend at East Carolina last week. Asheville downed Norfolk State on Saturday, 5-2 and stunned ECU on Sunday, 4-2. It was the Blue & White's first ever win over the Pirate program.

“We played some good tennis last weekend and that has continued from the fall,” stated Asheville coach Tom Hand. “We lost a lot of close matches last season but earned some valuable experience.

“However, it's still early,” added Hand. “And we've got two big tests this weekend in UNCG and App State. Both are very good teams. We'll need to play well this weekend.”

Saturday's match will be the opening game of the year for the Spartans, while ASU is 2-1 on the young season.

The Bulldogs have had good play throughout the line-up during the season. Junior Brett Landau was named Big South Player of the Week yesterday for his play last weekend. He won both his singles matches and a doubles match in Greenville.
