ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team opens the 2015 spring season on Saturday when the Bulldogs welcome Mars Hill to the Asheville Racquet Court downtown starting at 3 p.m. There is no admission charge.
Asheville returns everyone from last year's team that finished with an 8-15 overall record. The Bulldogs lost a lot of close matches in 2014. Head Coach Tom Hand looks for Asheville to be better this year.
“We learned a lot in 2014 and hope to put that to good use in 2015,” stated Hand. “I like what I saw in the fall with our guys as we really played well throughout the season. Hopefully, we can build on that success and have even a great spring season.
“We have everyone back,” added Hand. “We have earned some great experience and that should guide us through the spring season.”
The Blue & White were in just about every match last year. Josh Swindler posted a 12-9 singles record, while Daniel Kripak went 10-9. The doubles team of Alex Croker and Brett Landau were outstanding throughout the 2014 campaign as they had a 12-8 overall record at #1 flight and went 5-2 in Big South play.
An added incentive for this year's club is the Big South Conference Championship will be held at the Asheville Racquet Club in April.
