Volleyball Picks Up First Win With 3-2 Decision Over Elon

KENNESAW, Ga. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team picked up its first victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Elon University in a five-set thriller that saw the Bulldogs close out the 2014 Kennesaw State Invitational.
Asheville improves to 1-5 on the year while the Phoenix drop to 2-3. The match was the second five-set match the Bulldogs played today, falling to host KSU earlier this afternoon.
The Blue & White jumped out to an early 2-0 set lead, taking the first frame 25-18 and the second 25-20. Elon bounced back in the next two sets, earning a narrow 25-23 decision in the third before taking the fourth 25-21.
The Bulldogs then closed out the match with a 15-9 decision to post a check in the win column.
Sophomore outside hitter Shelby Erickson led the way once again for the Bulldogs, tallying 13 kills, two service aces and five blocks (two solo).
Amanda Powers recorded 25 assists while Katie Davis recorded 17 as the two split time at setter, and libero Bryn Pfeiffer posted a season-high 13 digs to help lead the Blue & White to victory.
Elon's Kayla Agae tallied 15 kills, with teammates Danielle Smith (13) and Megan Gravley (10) recording double digit kills. Stter Sydel Curry tallied 40 assists and Morgan Maner tallied 10 digs.
