Owls Outlast Bulldogs In Five-Set Thriller

KENNESAW, Ga. – It took five sets to determine a victor in UNC Asheville's volleyball match against Kennesaw State on Saturday afternoon, with the Owls outlasting the Bulldogs for a 3-2 victory at the 2014 KSU Invitational.
With the setback Asheville falls to 0-5 on the season while the Owls improve to 4-2.
The Bulldogs took the opening set 25-23 before KSU bounced back for a 25-22 victory in the second set. Asheville responded with a 25-20 win in the third before the Owls rebounded once again to take to the fourth 25-17.
The two teams battled to an 8-8 score in the fifth set, only to see KSU finish the frame on a 7-3 run to claim the match.
Sophomore outside hitter Shelby Erickson recorded a career-best 16 kills for the Blue & White, with fellow outside Christine Lakatos tallying 11. Freshman middle blocker Cameron Pryor posted a career-high nine kills with rightside hitter Catherine Fischer posting nine as well.
Setters Amanda Powers (26) and Katie Davis (17) combined for 43 assists while directing the Bulldog offense to a .307 hitting percentage as a team. Defensively freshman Diana Enriquez recorded a career-best five blocks with Lakatos leading the team in digs with 13.
KSU's Kelly Marcinek tallied a match-best 21 kills with fellow Owl Fanise Cannon chipping in 20 of her own. Setter Kristi Piedimonte recorded 52 assists for the Owls and Katarina Morgan led the way in digs with 13.
The Bulldogs close out the tournament later today with Elon, with the match set to start at 5 p.m.
