JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Nicholls State rallied late in the second and third sets to pull out wins as the Colonels slipped past the UNC Asheville volleyball team, 3-0 Friday afternoon in the Bulldogs second match of the Radisson Invitational held at Jacksonville University.

 

Asheville (2-11) was led by Shelby Erickson with 12 kills. Christine Lakatos sparked the defense with 20 digs. Freshman Diana Enriquez added six kills on 13 swings. Katie Creger had four kills and a team-high five blocks. Freshman Kristen Clay had 14 digs.

 

Nicholls State won the first game 25-17. Asheville led for most of the second set. The Bulldogs built a 19-14 lead and behind the play of Erickson.

 

But the Colonels rallied by outscoring the Bulldogs, 11-2 the rest of the set to take a 2-0 lead into intermission.

 

In the third set, Asheville once again built a lead and raced to a 16-12 advantage as the Blue & White went on a 4-0 run to build the margin.

 

NSU scored the next four points to tie the set at 16-16. The Bulldogs went back-and-forth with the Colonels as neither team had more than a two-point lead.  Trailing 22-20, Erickson delivered two kills to knot the match at 22-22.

 

But two kills and an attack error by Asheville allowed the Colonels to score the next three points to win the match and set, 25-22.

 

The Bulldogs will play the final match of the tournament at North Florida Saturday at 3 p.m.
