ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team opens up the fall season this weekend when they travel to Spartanburg to compete in the USC Upstate Fall Classic from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.

Competition begins Friday at 1 p.m. and will feature regional foes Furman, Wofford, Kennesaw State and Presbyterian. The tournament will continue all day Saturday and conclude Sunday afternoon.

Asheville returns all eight lettermen from last year's club. Second-year head coach Tom Hand is glad to have everyone back and looks forward to this weekend.

“We're glad to be playing some competition,” declared Hand. “The guys worked hard over the summer, and this is an excellent tournament to start the season. All of our players playing this weekend will play against some very good players.”

John Schubel and Will Goldberg are the only two seniors on this year's club. Asheville has four seniors playing this season in Alex Croker Daniel Kripak, Brett Landau and Thomas Panoulas. Sophomores' Reid Dillon and Josh Swindler round out this year's roster.
