Bulldogs Roar past Limestone, 91-66

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville placed five players in double figures as the Bulldogs rolled to a 91-66 victory over Division II Limestone College Sunday afternoon at Kimmel Arena.
The Bulldogs (3-4) shook off a slow start and built a 47-24 halftime lead and led by as many as 36 in the second half as Asheville ended a three-game losing streak.
The nation's leading scorer, Andrew Rowsey, scored a game-high 22 points for the Bulldogs. He went 8-of-16 from the field, dished out four assists and had three steals.
David Roberson added 15 points for the Blue & White, while a trio of freshmen Bulldogs had 12 points. The three players were Kem Ubaru, Kevin Vannatta and Alex Wnuk.
Limestone (2-5) was led by Walter Cole with 19 points. Shaq Dance added 17 points for the visitors.
The Bulldogs missed their first seven shots of the game as the Saints built an early 10-6 lead. But Asheville's defense got cranked up as the home team quickly scored the next eight points to take the lead for good at 14-10. Rowsey began the run with a trey and Wnuk added a three-point to give the Dogs a four-point line.
After a Limestone bucket, the Bulldogs went on a 15-2 run, led by seven points from Rowsey to sprint to a 29-14 lead.
Asheville continued to expand on the lead and got the lead to 23 points on Rowsey three-point play at 47-24 with nine second to go in the half.
The home team controlled the paint in the first half as it outscored Limestone, 30-14. Rowsey had 17 points in the opening half. Asheville's defense limited the Saints to just 25 percent (8-of-32) shooting from the field.
In the second half, the Bulldogs led 77-41 on Robertson's three-point play at the 8:43 mark.
Cole scored 11 of his 19 points in the final eight minutes for Limestone.
UNC Asheville plays again this Thursday night when the Bulldogs host Tusculum at Kimmel Arena starting at 7 p.m.
