ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team returns to the hardwood Saturday afternoon when the Bulldogs host Southern Conference foe Wofford College at Kimmel Arena starting at 2 p.m.

Saturday's game can be seen on the Big South Network for free by clicking this link or going to multimedia at uncabulldogs.com. The game will also be broadcast locally on WPEK Radio (880-AM) and iHeartRadio.

Asheville (2-4) looks for its third win in its last four games when it hosts the Terriers (1-5). The Bulldogs played last on Monday night and posted a 56-47 victory over Charleston Southern at Kimmel Arena. Asheville trailed 12-0 and 17-4 but rallied with some ferocious defense and clutch baskets in the second half to go 1-0 in league play for the second straight year.

The Blue & White also hope to end a frustrating two-game losing streak to Wofford over the last two years. Edgar Farmer's Wofford club has trailed in the second half of each game the past two seasons but have rallied for wins each time. Last year, the Terriers forced the Bulldogs into 28 turnovers before winning, 67-55.

The Terriers bring a hard-luck 1-5 record into Saturday's contest. A tough early-season schedule and some close losses have hurt Wofford in the early part of the season. Junior guard Jordan Frazier leads the Terrier attack with a 14.0 scoring average. Wofford's lone win was a 55-48 victory over Charleston Southern. Junior guard Ashton Fleming is one of the top rebounders in the SoCon with a 9.2 average and is second in assists with 14. The Terriers fell on Tuesday at home to South Carolina State, 59-53.

“Wofford is always a tough match-up for us and we are anticipating nothing less on Saturday. They work extremely hard, are well coached and have a balanced offensive attack,” stated Kirkpatrick. “We are in exams this week so our kids are burning both ends of the candle to succeed in the classroom and to prepare to play on Saturday.

“We are looking forward to the game and also hosting our annual camper reunion day and the community Girl Scouts. We will be holding a clinic directly after the game,” Kirkpatrick also said.

Senior guard Shonese Jones leads Asheville in scoring with an 11.0 average. Jeannie Buckner tops the Bulldogs in rebounding with a 7.0 mark. Brittany Gwyn and Buckner are tied for the team lead in assists with 13.

Asheville is on the road next week as the Bulldogs travel to Furman on Wednesday night (Dec. 10) for a 7 p.m. battle with the Paladins. Asheville plays its first Big South Conference road game on Sunday, Dec. 14 at Longwood starting at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs next home game will be Education Day on Wednesday, Dec. 17 when they host mountain rival Western Carolina starting at 11:30 a.m.

BULLDOG NOTES

UNC Asheville is 2-1 this year at home.

Wofford is the second of four teams the Bulldogs will play from the SoCon this season.

The Bulldogs look to be much better on defense this year and lately that has been the case. Asheville has limited its last three opponents to just 50 points per games. Overall, the Bulldogs are allowing opponents to 65.2 points per game and that includes 97 against 25th-ranked South Florida on Nov. 22.

Senior guard Shonese Jones now has 1,093 career points and needs just three points to move into 11th place on Asheville's career scoring list. In front of her is former Bulldog great Tonisha Jackson (1,095). Shonese is Asheville's leading scorer this season with an 11.0 average.

Senior forward Jeannie Bucker has led Asheville in rebounding in three of the past four games.
