FARMVILLE, Va. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team heads to Longwood Sunday afternoon for a Big South Conference road battle as the Bulldogs look to go 2-0 in league play for the first time in eight seasons.

Sunday's game can be seen on the Big South Network for free at this link. Fans can also listen to the game on WPEK Radio (880-AM) with the pre-game show at 1:45 p.m. and on-line at iHeartRadio.

Asheville (2-6, 1-0 BSC) looks to snap a two-game losing streak on Sunday, while the Lancers (0-7, 0-1 BSC) hope to win their first game of the season.

The Bulldogs opened league play on Dec. 1 with a 56-47 victory over Charleston Southern at Kimmel Arena. With a win on Sunday, Asheville would be 2-0 in the Big South for the first time since the 2006-07 campaign.

Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick's club is coming off an 81-71 loss Wednesday night at SoCon power Furman. The Bulldogs lost to the Paladins but battled the Paladins hard for 40 minutes.

Asheville won both meetings against Longwood last season.  The Bulldogs defeated the Lancers, 69-65 on the road and won 69-52 at Kimmel Arena.

"We had two great battles with Longwood last year, and we are expecting nothing less on Sunday. We had a great test against Furman and are still learning what we are capable of through this tough non-conference slate,” stated Kirkpatrick. “Longwood plays consistently hard for 40 minutes and has very capable weapons. We need to focus on the glass, valuing the basketball and defending on Sunday to have an opportunity to win."

Senior guard Shonese Jones leads Asheville in scoring with a 9.5 mark. Senior forward Jeannie Buckner tops the club in rebounding at 6.6 per game.

The Bulldogs return home on Wednesday when they host mountain rival Western Carolina on Education Day at Kimmel Arena starting at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are available at uncabulldogs.com/tickets.

BULLDOG NOTES

Longwood leads the all-time series 4-3 but Asheville won both meeting last season. The Bulldogs are 1-2 at Willett Hall.

Jeannie Buckner had led the Bulldogs in rebounding in five of Asheville's last seven games, including a career-best 14 vs. Barton on Nov. 24.

Asheville looks for its first road win of the year as the Bulldogs are 0-4 in enemy territory this season.

It was a tough loss for the Bulldogs at Furman on Wednesday night but one bright spot was their scoring. Facing a team that had blown out two Big South Conference teams by more than 20 points, Asheville battled the Paladins and tied a season-high in points with 71. The Bulldogs had averaged just 53 points in the previous three contests. Asheville shot a season-high .419 (26-of-62) from the field vs. Furman and had a season-low 11 turnovers in the game.

Senior guard Shonese Jones moved into 11th place on Asheville's career scoring list on Wednesday at Furman. She scored eight points and now has 1,103 points, passing former Bulldog great Tonisha Jackson (1,095). She enters the Longwood game as Asheville's leading scorer with a 9.5 average.

Senior guard Brittany Gwyn leads the Bulldogs in assists (22) and steals (11).
