ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team opens Big South Conference play this evening against Charleston Southern starting at 7 p.m. at Kimmel Arena.
Tonight's game can be seen on Big South Network for free.
The Bulldogs (1-4) look to bounce back from a frustrating 55-52 loss at North Carolina Central Friday afternoon. Asheville led the entire game until the Eagles went on a 19-0 run over the final four minutes to pick up the win.
Charleston Southern is 2-2 on the season and have not played since losing at Florida Tuesday night, 92-64. The Lady Bucs knocked down eight treys against the Gators.
"We are excited to host Charleston Southern for our first conference game on Monday night. After a tough and very disappointing loss on the road at NCCU Friday we are regrouping and ready to move forward,” stated Bulldog coach Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick. “We are still young in several positions but our freshmen and sophomores are getting better and learning how to step up in adverse situations. Charleston Southern plays extremely hard, and we will have to play much more disciplined defense in order to give ourselves an opportunity to win."
The Bulldogs swept both games last year as Asheville downed CSU, 61-46 in Charleston and won 73-48 at Kimmel Arena.
Asheville is being led in scoring by senior guard Shonese Jones with a 10.2 average. Senior forward Jeannie Buckner tops the club in rebounding at 7.4 boards per game.
Tonight's game starts a two-game homestand for the Bulldogs as they'll host Wofford Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
