HIGH POINT, N.C. – UNC Asheville's season and four-game win streak came to an end in the quarterfinals of the Big South Conference Tournament with a 2-0 loss at No. 3 seeded High Point, Tuesday evening at Vert Stadium.

Asheville's season concludes with a final mark of 5-9-1, while High Point improves to 10-7-2 on the year and will face No. 2 Coastal Carolina in the semifinals of the Big South Championships at Bryan Park next Friday.

"While we are disappointed to have lost in the quarterfinals tonight, I am really proud of the growth of the team this season," stated Bulldog coach Matt Kern.

"I thought High Point did a great job of moving the ball in the final third. Our performance was an improvement from our earlier match, but we still have work to do to close the gap with the top half of the conference," added Kern.

"We will miss our seniors, Paul Egle, Dan Jackson, Quentin Reynolds, Joey Cutting, Patrick Phillip, and Tyler Parker. They have been terrific student-athletes," Kern also said.

The Bulldogs fought off a steady High Point attack for the first thirty minutes of the first half and had a dangerous opportunity in the 29th minute after Zach Joens' was hauled down on the edge of the 18-yard box.  Victor Aguiar was unable to put the ensuing opportunity on frame, as his shot from 20 yards out flew just high over the cross bar.

High Point took advantage of its next opportunity when Pat Shelton headed home the cross sent in by Ebe Kudolo.  Jackson came off his line to claim the cross but Shelton glanced by him at the near post and redirected the cross into the net.

Shelton led all players in the first half with three shots, while Aguiar led the Bulldogs with two.  Jackson recorded three first half saves in net for the Bulldogs, while Kody Palmer did not require a save in the half.

High Point grabbed a second goal six minutes into the second half on Irvin Ramirez's deflected shot caught Jackson leaning the wrong direction.

Asheville began pushing numbers forward trailing 2-0, and moments later Victor Aguiar crafted a chance for the Bulldogs but again shot high.  Paul Egle followed up with an effort from outside the box in the 62nd minute which Palmer simply claimed for High Point.

The Bulldogs were out-shot 21-5 for the match. Dan Jackson ended his career as a Bulldog with six saves in net.  Aguiar finished with a team-best three shots for Asheville.  Mamadee Nyepon led all players with six shots.
