Men's Tennis Finishes Fall Season with Strong Performaces at Wofford Challenge

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team ended its fall season is style on Sunday as two Bulldogs won individual singles titles at the Wofford Challenge.
John Schubel and Thomas Panoulas each won their flights by winning three matches. In doubles action, the Bulldogs had two teams reach the title match in their flight.
“I was pleased with the way we played this weekend at Wofford against some good competition,” commented Bulldog coach Tom Hand. “We had a good fall and look forward to our spring season.”
Schubel was dominant in the Black Singles Flight. He won all three of his matches in straight sets. The senior roared past David Skylar of Wofford in Sunday's final, 6-1, 6-0.
Panoulas worked a little harder to win his title in Gold Singles. He won a three-set match on Friday and in two sets on Saturday. Facing Trevor Getkowski of Wofford in the finals, Panoulas won a close first set, 7-5 before cruising in the second set, 6-1.
Josh Swindler battled back in the Terrier Flight to win the back-draw. He won his final two matches in straight sets, including an easy 6-1, 6-3 victory over Lukas Luckenmeier of Presbyterian College.
Reid Dillon won two matches in the College Flight. Daniel Kripak and Will Goldberg each won singles matches during the weekend.
The highlight of doubles action came in the Black Doubles Flight. The flight should have been renamed the Bulldog flight as Asheville dominated the action. The doubles teams of Daniel Kripak and Josh Swindler and Will Goldberg and Reid Dillon each won both of their matches to reach the finals. The teams chose not to play the finals.
The doubles team of Thomas Panoulas and John Schubel won the back-draw of their flight.
