BUIES CREEK N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team picked up its second Big South Conference win of the year with a hard-fought 3-1 victory at Campbell Saturday afternoon at Gore Arena. The Bulldogs won the match 25-22, 25-22, 24-26, 27-25.

Asheville (6-20, 2-8 BSC) was led by junior outside hitter Christine Lakatos with 14 kills and 18 digs. Shelby Erickson contributed 11 kills and 14 digs. Setter Katie Davis had 38 assists and 20 digs. Freshman Katie Creger had a great match with nine kills in 19 attempts. Bryn Pfeiffer had a career-best 32 digs, while Madison Vaughn chipped in nine kills and four blocks.

The Bulldogs used late surges in the first two sets to grab a 2-0 lead at intermission. In the first set, Asheville trailed 17-15 before the visitors went on a 10-5 run to grab the first set. Creger led the Bulldogs in the opening set with four kills.

In the second set, Campbell led 18-13 but Asheville went on a 6-0 run to grab a 19-18 lead and get back into the game. Lakatos had four kills during the decisive run. Leading 23-22, the Bulldogs got a kill from Davis and an attack error from CU to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 advantage.

In the third set, Asheville looked like it was in control as it built an 18-13 lead. But Campbell rallied to go on a 10-4 run to lead 24-23. An Erickson kill tied the set at 24-24 but two hitting errors gave the Camels the set at 26-24.

The fourth set went back-and-forth as each team swapped the lead. Asheville led 24-23 on a Savanna Austin service ace. CU scored the next two points to lead 25-24 and was serving to tie the match at 2-2.

But an Erickson kill knotted the game at 25-25. An attack error by the Lady Camels put the Bulldogs to match point at 26-25. Kristen Clay delivered a service ace to give Asheville its second league win of the season.

The Bulldogs return home to Justice Center next weekend when they host Presbyterian College Friday night (Nov. 7) at 7 p.m. and Winthrop on Saturday (Nov. 8)
