ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb swapped first-half goals as the teams finished in a 1-1 tie in a Big South Conference match at Greenwood Field Saturday evening.

Asheville goalkeeper Dan Jackson was brilliant for the Bulldogs with 12 saves as the Runnin' Bulldogs (1-6-1, 0-1-1) outshot Asheville, 27-8.

Gardner-Webb opened the scoring in the sixth minute. Ali Al-Gashamy scored off a feed from Nathan Rose at 6:22.

Asheville equalized late in the first half off an indirect kick inside the GWU six. Paul Egle made a pass to freshman Victor Aguiar. His blast easily hit the left corner of the net to tie the match at 1-1 at the 44:03 mark. It was the rookie's first career goal.

Jackson made six saves in the second half and one in overtime to keep GWU off the scoreboard. He made a brilliant save in overtime on a blast from Denzel Clarke with four minutes left in the second overtime period.

UNC Asheville is back on the road Saturday afternoon when the Bulldogs travel to nationally-ranked and defending BSC champion Coastal Carolina at 1 p.m.
