Volleyball Falls to Coastal Carolina

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Coastal Carolina used a balanced attack as the Chanticleers downed UNC Asheville 3-0 in Big South Conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon at Justice Center. CCU won the match by the scores of 25-15, 25-23, 25-17.
The win was the Chanticleers (18-5, 7-2 BSC) third straight, while the Bulldogs (5-19, 1-7) lost their second consecutive match.
Asheville was led by a game-high 13 kills from Catherine Fischer. Shelby Erickson added nine kills. Katie Davis sparked the defense with 15 digs. She had 26 assists. Katie Creger had four blocks for the Blue & White.
The Chanticleers hit .250 for the match as they had 32 kills in 92 swings with just nine errors. Leah Hardeman had nine kills and 10 digs for CCU. Annayka Legros led the Chanticleer blocking efforts with seven blocks. CCU had 11 as a team. Jenna Orner had a game-high 16 digs.
The Chanticleers cruised to wins in the first and third sets. Asheville made a gallant rally in the second set. Trailing 20-14, the Bulldogs roared back to close to 24-23 forcing a CCU timeout. But a block from Legros gave the Chants a 25-23 win at 2-0 lead at intermission.
Asheville had a tough day hitting as the Bulldogs had 35 kills but made 23 attack errors in 112 swings, hitting .107 for the match. The home team also hurt itself with 11 service errors.
UNC Asheville plays next at High Point Friday night starting at 7 p.m.
